Open PSD and AI files without Photoshop or Illustrator
View and convert Photoshop and Illustrator files on any device, no Adobe subscription needed.
Designers often send their working files: .psd from Adobe Photoshop and .ai from Adobe Illustrator. These are the "open" files you need for future changes, but without an Adobe subscription they can be hard to even look at.
PSD: Photoshop documents
A PSD file stores a picture as layers: photos, text, shapes, effects and adjustment layers stacked on top of each other. When the file is saved with Maximize compatibility turned on (Photoshop's default), it also contains a ready-made flattened image, which makes it much easier for other programs to display it exactly.
AI: Illustrator documents
An AI file contains vector artwork such as logos, icons and print layouts. Modern Illustrator files saved with Create PDF Compatible File turned on include a PDF version of the artwork inside, which lets non-Adobe tools show and convert it accurately.
Opening them with JUST NODU
- Go to justnodu.com and choose the .PSD or .AI card.
- Select the file and wait for the preview.
- Download it as PDF, PNG or JPG, or open it in the editor to change text, colours and positions.
If the file looks wrong or will not open
- Blank or white preview of an AI file: it was probably saved without PDF compatibility. Ask the designer to save again with "Create PDF Compatible File" ticked, or to export a PDF.
- PSD shows only some layers or wrong effects: complex Photoshop effects (smart objects, special blend modes) look exactly right only in Photoshop. Ask for the PSD saved with "Maximize compatibility".
- Missing fonts: like CorelDRAW files, PSD and AI files do not include their fonts. Ask for the fonts, or for text converted to outlines in the AI file.
- Very large files: print PSDs can be hundreds of megabytes. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and be patient while it uploads.
