View 3D models online: GLB, OBJ, STL, FBX and Blender files
Look at a 3D model from every side, on any phone, without installing 3D software.
3D files come from many places: 3D printing shops, architects, game artists, product designers and online model libraries. Each tool prefers its own format, so it helps to know what each one is for.
The common 3D formats
| Format | What it is | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| GLB / glTF | Modern open format with geometry, colours, textures and materials in one file (GLB is the single-file binary version) | Web, AR, product previews |
| OBJ | Simple, widely supported geometry format; colours and textures come in a separate .mtl file and images | Exchanging models between programs |
| STL | Only the surface shape, as triangles, with no colour | 3D printing |
| FBX | Autodesk format that can also hold animation and rigs | Games, animation |
| BLEND | Blender's own project file with scenes, objects and materials | Blender projects |
View a model with JUST NODU
- Open justnodu.com and choose the 3D & Blender or 3D Mesh card.
- Select the model file.
- Drag with one finger to rotate, pinch to zoom, and use two fingers to move the view.
Troubleshooting
- OBJ shows grey with no textures: the .mtl file and the texture images were not included. Ask for all files zipped together, or for a GLB, which keeps everything in one file.
- STL has no colour: that is normal; STL stores only shape.
- Model is tiny or huge: different programs use different units (mm, cm, m). Zoom to fit; the shape is the same.
- Very heavy models: models with millions of triangles can be slow on older phones. A simplified export from the original software helps.
